My eldest son is about to quit his job because of merciless bullying.
Lest ye think he is a "pussy" or a "whiner", I'm frankly proud of him.
He's been working 48 hour weeks for five months at a regular factory job surrounded by "regular" people, a few of whom apparently believe autism spectrum is on par with stupidity.
He is also not a "baby" or "tattletale" since he refuses to let HR intervene, even though they are aware of the issue. He won't tell me the name of this person because he has that many scruples (a few more than myself, I might add), I suppose because he worries that I'll come uncorked. He's just been pushed too far one time too many by a small-minded fuck wit for whom I can only hope that karma has a big, juicy, rotten can of shit in store.
If I ever find out who it is, I'm not above asking people I know in law enforcement if they'll keep an extra-special eye out for the twat, and my son is so good, he wouldn't want me to do that.
Come on, karma.
The only reason the word bully is losing it's meaning and people hesitate to use it is because everybody tosses it out as soon as there is the smallest problem. So it's loses it's impact. So the real bully's get away with their real bullying because that word illicits the same response as a car alarm. After a while it is just back ground noise.
ReplyDeleteYes, Q, exactly. It has no power. It needs to be used when there is a problem.
DeleteI wish I could be a fly on the wall when you call this dude on his shit. That will be classic.
ReplyDeleteOh, God, I am livid. Husband is, too. Son has had to overcome some serious issues to be able to work like he does, and one mouthy motherfucker delights in attempting to ruin his progress.
DeleteMy husband's workplace has a young man who is much like my son who does a great job and keeps his head down, and hubs has seen a couple of his co-workers treat that kid like he's a fucking idiot. One of those co-workers is well into his seventies and a stone's throw from senile, and the other one has a perfectly groomed wife whose head keeps its shape only because of the hot air circulating inside, and it's hard to understand how they think the kid is the stupid one. Small little minds taking their aggressions out on someone who is completely undeserving, and not at all aggressive, I might add.
Don't blame him. The idiot's not worth going to jail or prison for and something along those lines may end up happening if he stays.
ReplyDeleteThere's something much better out there for him.

Have you ever read Flowers for Algernon? It's about a disabled guy who gets a corrective surgery that eventually unlocks his true potential and he becomes a genius. Then the people that didn't like him before REALLY don't like him now because he is infinitely smarter than they are and it make them feel inadequate. The story is told through a series of journal entries written by the story's protagonist, Charlie Gordon, a man with a low IQ of 68 who works a menial job as a janitor in a Plastic Box Factory. He is selected to undergo an experimental surgical technique to increase his intelligence. The technique had already been successfully tested on Algernon, a laboratory mouse. The surgery on Charlie is also a success, and his IQ triples.
ReplyDeleteCharlie falls in love with his former teacher, Miss Kinnian, but as his intelligence increases, he surpasses her intellectually, and they become unable to relate to each other. He also realizes that his co-workers at the factory, whom he thought were his friends, only liked him to be around so that they could make fun of him. His new intelligence scares his co-workers, and they start a petition to have him fired, but when Charlie finds out about the petition, he quits. As Charlie's intelligence peaks, Algernon's suddenly declines—he loses his increased intelligence and mental age, and dies shortly afterward, to be buried in a cheese box in the backyard of the lab where Charlie was tested. Charlie discovers that his intelligence increase is also only temporary. He starts to experiment to find out the cause of the flaw in the experiment, which he calls the "Algernon-Gordon Effect". Just when he finishes his experiments, his intelligence begins to regress to its state prior to the operation. Charlie is aware of, and pained by what is happening to him as he loses his knowledge and his ability to read and write. He tries to get his old job as a janitor back, and tries to revert to normal, but he cannot stand the pity from his co-workers, landlady, and Ms. Kinnian. Charlie states he plans to "go away" from New York and move to a new place. His last wish is that someone put flowers on Algernon's grave.

I can't believe I didn't see this posting till now. I am your son. I mean I was him is those particular situations. All I can say is that he knows who the bullies are, and not blame himself for anything that is happening to him. This is what life is like now. Can he find something better? I sure hope so. I'll be praying for him.
